Introduction

About Woodstock

Known as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds' and founded in 1163, Woodstock epitomises the charm and beauty of many Cotswold towns, but with its own unique character.

Full of history, this small market town has a cosy, friendly atmosphere. The traders are passionate about their businesses and are delighted to spend time with their customers. Woodstock is quietly sophisticated, providing a superior shopping, dining and 'staying over' experience; a wide selection of exclusive goods and services offer real value. This is one of the country's 'best kept secrets'.

The three principal streets are set out in a triangle with free parking. Everything is in easy walking distance, allowing you to browse, stroll and sample stress-free.

As well as locally produced goods, Woodstock is full of individually sourced, unusual and exotic finds from around the world. You can discover international art, antiques from home and abroad, stunning silks from the East, as well as stylish clothes from France. If you are looking for art, furniture, interior design ideas, or are planning a new kitchen or bathroom, there are specialist, top quality businesses here to help you.

For the fashion-conscious there are a variety of shops offering designer clothes, jewellery, lingerie and accessories.

The town sells good quality food boasting its own butcher and delicatessen, with regular farmers' markets.

There are numerous tearooms, pubs, brasseries, restaurants and hotels, each with their own intimate atmosphere. Woodstock is romantic, with ivy facades, oak beams and open fireplaces. Often chosen as the ideal wedding venue, it offers a welcome escape from the pressures of everyday life. In the town centre is the church, town hall, museum and even some old stocks! As a fully operational market town there are frequent craft and antique fairs.

Not to be missed are the delights of Blenheim Palace, the Duke of Marlborough’s home, built in the 18th century. The palace has breathtaking architecture, there are beautiful walks around the lake, and a train ride through parkland to the Adventure Playground and Butterfly House is a treat for children.

With so much to offer, this jewel in the Cotswolds can be enjoyed time after time. Wherever you come from, you are sure to be enchanted by the magic of Woodstock.
